Integrate RSS Feed and Send Automated Updates

Content creators such as editors, PR agencies and bloggers can now send new messages even more conveniently via newsletter; the new email automation “RSS Feed” allows you to automatically send new posts to your readers.

When you’re publishing new posts on WordPress, Joomla!, Jimdo or other CMS systems on a regular basis you want to get your readers excited. The direct way via newsletter is a good way to go, doing it manually for each post, however, takes up too much time. An RSS feed can help you simplify the communication of your posts.

The RSS Feed: What is That?

An RSS feed (Real Simple Syndication) shows the changes of a website, which are displayed on a separate service website (the RSS channel). You can create an RSS feed to distribute mainly headlines and a short lead text with a link to the original post. You can also display whole posts in your RSS feed.

Interested readers can subscribe to your RSS feed and never miss out any of your new posts. However, this requires each reader to take action themselves to find your RSS feed link and subscribe to it.

The Ideal Solution for Magazine and Blog Newsletters: Send Automated RSS Emails

To make it easier for your readers to find and for you to communicate new content, CleverReach offers a brand-new predefined newsletter workflow in the Automation-Center THEA. When you update your RSS feed, e.g. with a new blog post or magazine article, CleverReach puts this content into your email campaign and sends it to your predefined recipients. You can find a template called “RSS Feed” for your email automation workflow in the Multi-level Workflows tab, which already contains a Calendar event as a trigger.

How the New RSS Feed Automation Works

1. General Settings of the Automation: Use the Calendar trigger to determine a time frame for your RSS feed updates and select a recipient list.

2. Set up RSS Feed: Enter your RSS feed URL. Find out what to consider when setting up your feed. Determine the number of new posts you want to send in one email. You can send up to 10 of your latest blog posts to your recipients via newsletter. Also define how old you want the posts you embed in your RSS feed to be. The predefined times are 1, 6, 12, 24, 48 hours and 7 days, 14 days and 30 days.

Define whether you want to display the whole content from your RSS feed or simply a small extract. You can also set up an individual link text.

3. Design RSS Feed Email: The last step within your campaign is selecting and designing your email. You can either use an existing email or simply create a new one. Tip: When clicking on “Create New Email“ an email template pops up which already contains RSS feed elements. This makes designing your newsletters a lot easier.

Eventually, you only have to enter a subject line, sender name and address – there’s your RSS feed email automation workflow, ready to activate!
