Automatically send blog content in the newsletter with THEA RSS import
With our automation tool THEA, your blog posts become newsletters to your subscribers - automatically. Use the automation route "THEA RSS Import" to send current news and articles to your recipients. For all those who run a blog, corporate blog or blogazine and regularly create up-to-date content for it, this extended automation route makes it even easier to stay in touch with their readers. The email automation tool THEA can be used to send automated email campaigns that are filled with content in an RSS feed.
- Website operators who regularly publish up-to-date content and articles on their own website can offer these as RSS feeds. RSS means "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary". If you don't want to miss anything, subscribe to this RSS feed and get new articles displayed with the help of an RSS reader. This way, readers don't miss any new contribution. Quite practical - but with the RSS triggered newsletter campaigns it is even more practical! And this for the content creator as well as for the reader.
- When an RSS feed is updated with new blog posts, CleverReach pulls this content into the email campaign and sends the email to all selected recipients at the set send time.
- This means: you create an RSS feed automation once - and your newsletter subscribers will automatically receive your latest articles as an email on a regular basis! This way you stay in direct contact with your subscribers, because a newsletter that people find in their mailbox with a personal salutation always has a more personal effect than an RSS feed.
- Our customers can use the automation THEA RSS Feed to set the time at which the latest articles are sent.
Attention: Prerequisite for the use of the RSS Feed Automation is that you must bring a valid RSS URL (RSS 2.0, Atom, etc.).

Send out your blog posts: With THEA RSS Import Automation subscribers never miss posts again
1. More traffic with less effort

THEA RSS Feed Automation is useful for all CleverReach users who regularly publish new posts to their blog or other online publication. It doesn't matter how often new content goes online: Whether several times a day, every morning, once a week or less frequently. Because with our RSS Feed Automation, you can set when and how often your RSS feed is retrieved and sent to your subscribers in the form of a newsletter.
- Example 1: An online magazine publishes current news in its blog every day (for example, IT news at a glance). Using THEA RSS Import, the magazine would like to automatically send the 5 most recent articles to all newsletter recipients by email every morning at 8am.
This can be easily done with RSS Feed Automation: it is set once and from that moment on, newsletter subscribers will receive the latest articles in their inbox every day. - Example 2: You are a self-publisher with your own blog based on WordPress, Drupal, Typo3, Joomla or another CMS and you publish articles only sporadically? New posts should be sent automatically to all recipients from your email list? Then adjust the automation to the frequency of your publications. Do you publish news articles several times a week? Then send out your newsletter with new articles once a week. If you post new content less frequently, one newsletter per month is enough. This way, your readers and followers will never miss your new posts again!
With RSS feed automation, customers benefit several times over:
- Time savings/less manual effort through automation.
- More traffic on the blog
- Latest content can be sent to the email recipient list at the same time as it is published
2. THEA RSS Import: Log in, customize, get started!

The automation THEA RSS Import is not only fast, but also very easy to set up. The essentials, the automation route, are already stored for you in CleverReach©. All you need to do is to customize it to your needs. Prerequisite: You need an RSS URL. From here, our newsletter tool pulls the articles into the email. We explain under "RSS feeds and dynamic content" how to find your RSS URL.
The automation route THEA RSS Feed consists of a few modules. However, these are sufficient for your recipients to receive your latest posts regularly and reliably. You set the following parameters once:
- When should the articles be sent via newsletter?
- To which target group do the emails go, the whole list of recipients or only certain segments?
- How should the email be designed - should the posts be sent in full or just a teaser?
Sounds simple? It is!
3. To create the THEA RSS Import automation in CleverReach

Here's how to create an automation chain to automate the delivery of your blog or magazine content to your readers:
- Log in to your CleverReach account and open the "Automation THEA" menu item.
- Now select "Advanced workflow". Here you will find the automation template "Send your blog posts". Clicking on this template will open a dialog box where you can specify the name of the new chain, as well as an optional description.
- Once you have done this, click on "Create". Now you will come to our virtual drawing board, where you can see the new THEA RSS Import automation chain. It contains the relevant modules:
- Calendar event (orange)
- Recipient module (green)
- RSS Feed module (green)
- Select e-mail (green)
- Set the modules as you wish for your planned RSS automation:
- In the Calendar Event module, select when you want the newsletter to be populated with the latest articles via RSS and sent out - for example, every Wednesday at 8am.
- In the Recipients module, select your target group (entire list or a segment).
- In the RSS module you have to enter the following information: In the first step, store the RSS feed URL. You bring the feed URL from your system (your online magazine or your blog in WordPress, Drupal or other CMS). This RSS URL must be in the correct format (Atom, RSS 2.0,..). If the URL cannot be recognized, you will see a warning message. Unfortunately, the automation cannot be created then.
- If the URL check was successful, you can continue with the settings of your THEA RSS import route. Now specify how many posts from your blog or magazine should be included in your newsletter via RSS feed. The predefined possible number is between 1 and 10.
In the next step, set the age of the posts from the RSS feed:
- The predefined times are 1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours as well as 7, 14 and 30 days.
- With the last specifications in the RSS module, you set the layout of the RSS element within the email. There are predefined options here as well: Image left and text right, text left and image right and text only. The default is: image left, text right. In addition, the link text can be entered individually. The default is "Read more".
- You can also select whether the whole article from the RSS feed is displayed or only an excerpt (e.g. max. 100 characters).
Have you set everything as desired? Then you can continue with the setup of the e-mail template.
4. RSS Email Template Setup

The last step to set up your RSS campaign is to create the email:
- To do this, click on the green email module.
- You now have the choice between "existing email" and "create new email".
- When you click on "Create new e-mail", an input window opens. There, the "RSS E-Mail Template" is already selected by default.
- The "RSS Email Template" is particularly suitable for newsletters that are linked to dynamic content, similar to the CleverReach "Tell a Story" template.
- After clicking on "Next", the subject, campaign name, sender name and sender address can be entered.
- After kicking on "Edit email" you will be redirected to the email editor.
In the e-mail editor, you now edit the "RSS e-mail template". This is then the newsletter that will later be sent to your recipients regularly and automatically filled with dynamic content. Below the header image, the variable parameters from the RSS feed are stored based on the previously selected design. By default, the selection is image left and text right.
The following variables are stored here:
- {IMAGE} = With current content from the previously defined feed
- {TITLE} = With current content from the previously defined feed
- {DESCRIPTION} = With current content from the previously defined feed
- {LINK} = With standard text "Read more" or the individual input
Basically all available variables from the RSS feed can be used. Please also read our help center post on how to set up THEA RSS import automation.
Important notes:
- The preview function contains a standardized content that is loaded and also used for test sending.
- If a text+image element was selected for the dynamic content and four posts have an image but the fifth does not, a text element will be displayed.
- If there is no new content at the time of sending, no email will be sent.
- The same applies if no dynamic content can be loaded due to an error (downtime at the external server hosting the blog/magazine). This avoids that an empty email is sent to the deposited recipients.
5. Evaluate RSS feed campaigns

With the help of THEA Reports you have the possibility to find out better and better what your readers like to read. Which of your articles led to a click on the "Read more" button (if your RRS feed newsletter is set accordingly). Clicking on "Report" of THEA RSS mail will open its own page showing you the last ten reports. In addition, you can filter by the time range "Last 30 days and Last month". You can also enter a time period. You will always find the most recent report on the first page at the top.
Furthermore, the THEA report measures the success of your RSS campaigns. The following CleverReach standard key figures are measured and output:
- Delivered emails
- Openings
- Not opened
- Clicks
- Unsubscribes
- Bounces
There are also additional ways to evaluate e-mai marketing email marketing campaigns:
- The Connect Link extension is a measurement tool to evaluate purchases via an email with CleverReach.
- The following data can be measured with it: Generated Orders, Generated Revenue and the Order Rate.
- It is also possible to evaluate purchases, etc. via the Google Analytics integration.
